Gazeta Wyborcza Encyclopedia

The first volume of Gazeta Wyborcza Encyclopedia will debut on January 12, 2005 with a record in the Polish market circulation of 700 thousand.

Following volumes will be available for PLN 37 plus the price of "Gazeta Wyborcza", every Wednesday, for 19 consecutive weeks. The Wednesday's cover price of "Gazeta Wyborcza" will remain at its current level.

The encyclopedia publishing series were prepared in co-operation with Wydawnictwo Naukowe PWN (Polish Scientific Publishers PWN), and the whole project is carried out together with Mediasat publishing company.

- The encyclopedia, similar to our book collection, ties well with Gazeta's mission and editorial style. It is also an attractive tool to enhance our image as a quality newspaper. We hope that the encyclopedia will become another publishing success and will constitute an integral component of home libraries in Poland - said Wanda Rapaczynski, the President of Management Board of Agora.

The series consist of 20 hard cover volumes, each 800 pages long. They contain over 100 thousand entries supplemented by over 10 thousand illustrations. The uniqueness of this publication is the inclusion of "journalistic" entries on contemporary history of Poland and the world. Therefore, one can look up both "Owsiak, Jerzy" and "Bieslan" in our encyclopedia. This makes the series the most up-to-date encyclopedia in the Polish market.

Additionally, each volume contains a bonus "What we wrote back then" section - selected entries are complimented with press articles carefully selected from "Gazeta Wyborcza's" records. The supplement was prepared under the supervision of Juliusz Rawicz, duputy editor-in-chief of "Gazeta Wyborcza".

Gazeta Wyborcza Encyclopedia is the second project conducted together with Mediasat publishing company - the first one was Gazeta Wyborcza Collection - a canon of masterpieces of contemporary literature. The Collection, which started on June 1, 2004 will run until March 1, 2005 and will have published 40 volumes in total.

Mediasat is an experienced publishing company which carried out similar projects with such newspapers as: "El Pais", "Daily Mail", "Le Figaro", or "La Repubblica".
