“Johnny”, directed by Daniel Jaroszek, produced by NEXT FILM, has entered the Main Competition of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. Initially, sixteen titles were selected for the competition; today, another four were announced to compete for the Golden Lions in September. At the Festival, “Johnny” will have its premiere screening.
“Johnny” is a moving and inspiring story based on true events. It is told from the point of view of Jan Kaczkowski’s charge, Patryk Galewski – a boy who did not have an easy start into his life.
Patryk breaks into a house in a small town. The court sentences him to community service at a hospice in Puck where he gets to meet an extraordinary priest, Jan Kaczkowski. The clergyman gets seemingly tough and rebellious young vocational school teenagers involved in caring for the ill. In his work, he focuses on closeness, sensitivity and fighting for human relations. He teaches empathy in a highly humorous way, which makes him extremely popular. Soon after, Jan needs to fight illness himself. For Patryk, this situation is a life-changer.
Dawid Ogrodnik plays the role of Priest Jan Kaczkowski. Patryk Galewski is played by Piotr Trojan. The cast includes also: Magdalena Czerwińska, Anna Dymna, Maria Pakulnis, Marta Stalmierska, Witold Dębicki, Michał Kaleta and Joachim Lamża.
Daniel Jaroszek directed the film and Maciej Kraszewski wrote the screenplay.
Robert Kijak (NEXT FILM) is the producer. The film is co-produced by TVN, Grupa Moderator Studio Filmowe, Warmia Resort, Rafał Różański, Visual Work Rebel Media, Dawid Podsiadło, Maciej Woć, Sebastian Kwiatkowski, Aneta Graff-Dąbrowska, Abstraction Plan, Deamsound, Cineline, Maciej Kraszewski and Dobra Robota.
